The Promise of the Sowing CD
released August 2015!
Thanks to all who supported The Promise of the Sowing. I'm extremely pleased to announce that the CD will be released this August on Folk Legacy Records. This very special project, dedicated to the farmers, fieldworkers and fisherfolk who give us our food, and to the Earth which sustains us, features a mixture of traditional, contemporary and original songs. In the words of Si Kahn, "Listening to the quietly restrained instrumental and vocal skill with which he approaches each song, the unhurried grace and respect he bestows on every person about whom he sings, we are reminded that it truly is a gift to be simple. In this magnificent album, Dan Schatz passes that gift on to us."

Royalties for some of the songs are being donated to environmental and cultural conservation organizations. Early supporters of the project include such diverse luminaries as Janis Ian and Joe Hickerson. Click here to learn more about the CD, pre-order your copy, and support the project!
Dear Jean and other News
Winter 2015
It's been a long time since we've updated the "News page," mainly because so much has been happening! Last Fall saw the release of the highly acclaimed Dear Jean - Artists Celebrate Jean Ritchie, which Dan co-produced with Mick Lane and Grammy winner Charlie Pilzer. Dear Jean features performances from Judy Collins, John McCutcheon, Pete Seeger, Janis Ian, Elizabeth LaPrelle, Archie Fisher, Robin and Linda Williams, members of Jean's family, Mick Lane and Pat Broaders, and Dan, among many, many others. The album celebrates Jean's musical legacy and also supports the work of Appalachian Voices to end mountaintop removal coal mining.
Dan's work on Dear Jean led to an appearance last Spring on PBS's Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, which has been broadcast internationally on radio and television. In the coming year, Dan will be joining forces with Jean's son Jon Pickow for a series of shows featuring Jean's songs and tunes. This Summer, look for Dan to appear in Washington state, Orgeon and Kentucky, among other places!
Meanwhile, work on the new album, The Promise of the Sowing, continues. Kim and Reggie Harris, among others, have contributed amazing harmonies to this musical celebration of the earth, the farmers, and the fisherfolk who provide our food.
